You may not have heard of Miltonia orchids – but once you’ve seen one and smelled its sweet perfume you’ll just want to grow more. Their elegant, strappy leaves send up stems of exotic flowers, each prettily marked like a pansy, scenting your room gently from the moment they open.
Miltonias are as straightforward to look after as moth orchids; give them a warm, bright windowsill indoors, but out of direct sunlight. They enjoy plenty of rainwater and regular misting to keep humidity high. Add specialist orchid fertiliser in summer, available in handy dispensers from the garden centre, and they’ll flower their socks off for most of the year.
